I used to call that “home,”
But now, there, I'm no longer permitted.
Someone else resides at that address,
Some “tenant” or “renter.”
She wouldn't like
The likes of me all up
In her business, even though
I used to pee and poop right there
In one of her bedrooms.
—
I saw they got the kids into the car.
To grandmother's house
They go. Not surprising,
This time of year, Mom
Wants to go to her girlhood home,
See her Mom (or, in this case,
Her aunt).
—
It’s nobody’s business, and we’re
not in it. Anyways, even if we were,
it wouldn’t make
much of a difference.
Traditions come and go, but at least
there’ll be Lefsa, some starch
of reality to keep us from flitting off
into the virtual. Not that there’s
anything wrong with virtue.
—
Until then, leave my packages
by the other door. No one
will take my gifts.
No need to remove
your shoes.
