Sure, I should write something about just how important Labor Unions were and are. I don’t have anything worked up. I will say I’m tired of them being demonized.
Unions are a blunt instrument, and can be inefficient. But so far, they’re the only tool we’ve got to represent the folks in the “lower” rungs of the organizations.
They’re far more efficient than this general strike that a lot of Americans seem to be participating in, refusing to staff the service industries which desperately need them, opting for creating “Web Content” (often sex work). Then again, it would be easier for them (and for small businesses) if we took the healthcare cost and corporatize it via a single-payer system. Someone should be talking about this. Comments below!
As ever, I have no solutions, but I long to dialogue.
Here’s something I wrote to myself yesterday:
The Pursuit of Pleasure
Stop wasting your energy.
Find the core of the current moment.
See the scenario you long for and write to yourself
“What could they do to make this outcome more likely?
Right now. At this moment.”
Look in the mirror and love yourself.
Be the older person your younger self cares for.
Care for your older self to come.
See yourself living your best life and ask
of your future current self
“What do I wish I would’ve done differently?”
Do it differently.
